Several colleges and departments of the University of Oxford run competitions which are open to students from schools and colleges.Preparing an entry for one of these competitions is a valuable experience for academically motivated students, so please do encourage your students to enter. There are also some exciting prizes to be won.
National High School Essay Contest - This contest sponsored by the U.S. Foreign Service, gives high school students important international topics to think and write about. This list covers only a small number of the many competitions out there, but hopefully it opens your eyes to the many types of contests out there!Essay Prize 2020. The Robinson College Essay Prize is open to all students currently in Year 12 (Lower Sixth, or equivalent) at a UK School. It is designed to give students the opportunity to develop and showcase their independent study and writing skills.There are tons of writing contests for high school students, which can award everything from medals to cash prizes to scholarships if you win. Not only will a little extra money, whether cash or scholarships, help you when it comes time to pay for college, but the prestige of a respected reward is also a great thing to include on your college application.

Latino History Essay Competition. Founded in 2011 by the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at UT-Austin, the Latino History Essay Competition has found a new home with UIL Academics beginning with the 2012-2013 school year.
The NCH London Essay Competition is open to students who are currently in their penultimate (second to last) year of secondary education, year 12, and who are interested in studying humanities or social sciences at university. The American Foreign Service Association’s national high school essay contest completed its twenty-second year with nearly 440 submissions from 36 states. Three randomized rounds of judging produced this year’s winner, Jonas Lorincz, a junior from Marriotts Ridge High School in Marriottsville, Maryland.

The History Department of Western Kentucky University is delighted to once again sponsor the Francis Thompson Memorial History Contest for high school and junior high (middle) school students in Diddle Arena. This year's contest will be on March 20, 2020.
High School English Essay Competition 25th November 2013. Magdalen College is now accepting entries for its English Literature competition. Entrants must be in Year 12 (for the academic year 2013-14) and must be studying English. The deadline for entries is 5pm on Saturday 1st March 2014.
The Independent Social Research Foundation and the Cambridge Journal of Economics awarded the 2015 ISRF Essay Prize in Economics to Professor Julie A. Nelson (University of Massachusetts, Boston) for her essay Husbandry: A (Feminist) Reclamation of Masculine Responsibility for Care.
R.A. Butler Politics Prize The R.A. Butler Prize for essays in Politics and International Studies is a competition that can be entered by students in Year 12 or the Lower 6th. Candidates are invited to submit an essay on a topic to be chosen from a list of general questions announced in March each year, and to be submitted in August.
Essay Competition Successes Congratulations to two Bancroftians who have both been placed second in leading essay prizes. Ben Norris obtained second place in the Kelvin Science essay competition with a discussion entitled “There is no such thing as electron deficient compounds, only theory deficient Chemists.” He attended the prize giving at Peterhouse College, Cambridge on 24 July.
The deadline for essay submissions is 5pm on Friday 24th July 2020. The Mary Renault Prize is a Classical Reception essay prize for school or college sixth form pupils, awarded by the Principal and Fellows of St Hugh’s College, and funded by the royalties from Mary Renault’s novels.
